The two Dongfeng Honda MacPro Civics of Martin Xie and Daniel Lloyd will start from the front row of the grid for Race 1 at the Shanghai International Circuit. The pair, both contesting the TCR China series, were quickest in both parts of Qualifying, with Xie beating Lloyd by just over two-tenths of a second in Q2 to secure pole position with a best lap of 2:16.626.
The best of the TCR Asia competitors was Diego Moran in a Liqui Moly Team Engstler Hyundai who was third quickest (2:17.100). The reigning TCR China champion Sunny Wong, in a Teamwork Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS, qualified fourth (2:17.248), ahead of the current series leader and 2018 TCR Asia champion Luca Engstler who was fifth fastest (2:17.325) in the other Engstler Hyundai i30.
Alex Hui was sixth quickest (2:18.014) in the second Teamwork Audi RS3, with the Elegant Motorsport CUPRA of Kelvin Wong the best of the Cup competitors in seventh with a best lap of 2:18.023. Over eight-tenths of a second behind Wong was the Eurasia Motorsport Hyundai of the Phillipines driver Daniel Miranda (2:18.879).
Pepe Oriola (2:19.044) was ninth fastest in the Hyundai of the Solite Indigo Racing team, while Alex Liu (2:19.403) completed the top ten in the NewFaster Racing CUPRA. The pair will make up the front row for the reversed-grid Race 2 on Sunday.
Race 1 is scheduled for 15.45 CST and will be streamed live on the TCR Asia Facebook page and the TCR Asia and TCR TV websites.
