Just days after being crowned the inaugural TCR Malaysia champion, reigning TCR Asia Series title holder Luca Engstler confirmed that he would return to defend his 2018 title, and help to continue Engstler Motorsport’s success in the Series that has delivered three consecutive Drivers’ and Teams’ titles.
Engstler was the standout driver in the 2018 TCR Asia Series, ultimately claiming a season high five wins to take the title over Malaysia’s Mitchell Cheah by 24-points. Across the ten-round Series, Engstler drove the Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR, before going on to claim the TCR Malaysia title in the team’s new Hyundai i30N TCR, the very same car he will use in TCR Asia this season.
“I’m super happy to announce that I will do another year in TCR Asia Series with Engstler Motorsport,” Luca Engstler confirned. “I’m very thankful that Hyundai Motorsport and Hyundai Deutschland are giving me the chance to defend my title.”
In fact, the German company was also named the official parts agent for Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing for the TCR Asia Series.
"We have been active in motorsport in Asia for many years and feel very close to racing there too,” Franz Engstler, owner of Engstler Motorsport explained.
We are very pleased that we are now official partner for Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing for the TCR Asia Series - we rely on Hyundai and we look forward to this new task."
